Faculty Development Survey

Sapna Kuehl, M.D. (St. Agnes Hospital), Daisy Smith, M.D. (Lankenau Hospital)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Overview

  • Community Hospitals have highly variable resources to conduct faculty development and face special challenges with involving and improving voluntary faculty.
  • Study done in 2000 by Jeanne Clark, M.D. et al. showed 39% of teaching hospitals had ongoing faculty development practices and 60% (half of university hospitals and two-thirds nonuniversity hospitals) did not.*
  • The purpose of the survey was to explore faculty development practices at institutions in the CHERN survey group and to explore how CHERN can assist its members with these programs.
  • This survey was conducted in June 2010 using survey monkey of the 45 member CHERN survey group. Survey response was 64%.
